Last updated 11 October 2026 · Applies to the Carrimi mobile app and carrimi.ng
Carrimi connects people travelling the same way with drivers already going that way. This policy describes exactly what the app collects, why, who it goes to, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. We collect your email, your location while you use the app, and — if you drive — the identity documents required to verify you. We do not sell your data. We never hold your ride fare: you pay the driver directly. We never see your card number. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.
Carrimi is operated from Nigeria and is the data controller for the information described here. Contact: privacy@carrimi.ng.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | It is how you sign in. We send a one-time code to it; we do not store a password. |
| Phone number (when you add one) | So a driver and passenger who have agreed a ride can reach each other. Optional during our launch phase. |
| Name and profile photo | Shown to the person you are matched with, so each of you knows who to look for. |
| Precise location | The entire product. We match you to people and vehicles near you, and show you where they are. See section 3. |
| Trip details — pickup, destination, times, agreed fare, rating | To run the trip, show your history, resolve disputes, and detect abuse. |
| Driver identity — National Identification Number (NIN), optional driver's licence, vehicle details, a selfie | Required before anyone can carry passengers. See section 4 — we check the NIN and do not keep it. |
| Credit top-ups — amount, reference, status | So your prepaid balance is correct. Payment itself happens on our payment processor's page; see section 5. |
| Device information — push notification token, app version, device model, diagnostic logs | To deliver notifications and to find out why something broke. |
Location is the one permission that deserves a straight answer.
Nigerian law and basic passenger safety both require that we know who is driving.
Two different things are often confused, so to be explicit:
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, stop a particular use of it, or send you a copy. Write to privacy@carrimi.ng and we will respond within 30 days. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
In the app: Profile → Delete account. Or follow the steps at carrimi.ng/legal/delete-account. What is deleted and what we must keep is set out on that page.
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email rather than a password, so there is no password of yours for us to leak. Access to production data is restricted to the people who operate the service.
Carrimi is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we have, write to us and we will delete it.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for anything material, tell you in the app before it takes effect.
